Akhtar, one of the fastest bowlers in the world, cautioned that if mediocrity continues to infiltrate Pakistan cricket, they will face more similar outcomes.
“Consistently bringing in mediocre and ordinary individuals. People have turned brand building into a joke. It’s about establishing an institution that builds a brand. Now, what can I say in this extensive debate?” Akhtar stated.
“The present condition of Pakistan cricket and the team’s performance are a direct result of the decisions they’ve made in the past 20-30 years. If they keep bringing in the same individuals and making the same errors, they will achieve the same results,” he added.
Pakistan compiled 282 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs after opting to bat first. Captain Babar Azam top-scored with 74 runs. Subsequently, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Rahmat Shah scored 65, 87, and 77 not out, respectively, leading Afghanistan to victory.
This defeat marks Pakistan’s third consecutive loss in the tournament, putting them in a precarious position to qualify for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s triumph has enhanced their chances of progressing further in the competition. The upcoming matches for both teams are crucial, with Pakistan set to face South Africa and Afghanistan taking on Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.
