Mahadev gambling application case: Huma Qureshi, Kapil Sharma seek more time to appear before ED
As stated by the investigative agency, Huma Qureshi allegedly endorsed the application, while Kapil Sharma entertained guests at a wedding organized by a promoter of the application that took place abroad. The agency has also issued summons to actors Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, and Hina Khan. It is uncertain whether these actors are implicated in the case. Ranbir Kapoor has also requested a two-week delay to appear for questioning.
The Enforcement Directorate stated that large-scale hawala operations were conducted to transfer the gambling’s proceeds to offshore accounts. The agency claims that Ranbir Kapoor promoted the application through social media advertisements and received cash payments, which are considered as proceeds of illicit activities. He was summoned to the agency’s Raipur office on October 6. He requested a two-week extension to appear before the central agency. Whether the ED will grant his request is unknown.
Multiple other celebrities are also under investigation by the ED. They were purportedly hired to perform at the opulent UAE wedding of app promoter Sourabh Chandrakar. Chandrakar is accused of spending Rs 200 crores on the wedding in February 2023. This amount includes payments to celebrities who performed at the event, five-star accommodations for guests, and private jets to transport relatives from India to the UAE. All payments were made in cash.
