India Mobile Congress 2023: Chairman of Reliance Jio, Akash Ambani, displays the capabilities of JioSpaceFiber to Prime Minister Modi

The inaugural day of the India Mobile Congress (IMC 2023) at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi witnessed Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited demonstrating the first-ever giga fiber service in India that utilizes satellite technology to provide high-speed broadband services to previously unreachable areas within the country. Jio showcased its new satellite broadband solution named JioSpaceFiber. According to the company, this service will be available across India at highly affordable prices.

Reliance Jio currently offers high-speed fixed-line and wireless broadband services to over 450 million Indian consumers. “To expedite digital inclusivity for every Indian household, Jio has introduced JioSpaceFiber to its existing lineup of broadband services, JioFiber and JioAirFiber. With Jio, consumers and businesses can enjoy reliable, low-latency, and high-speed internet and entertainment services, no matter where they are located,” stated the company.

The satellite network is also expected to enhance the capacity for mobile backhaul, further improving the availability and scope of Jio True5G in the most remote parts of the country. Jio has partnered with SES to utilize the latest medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology worldwide. This MEO constellation is reported to offer unique gigabit, fiber-like services from space. By having access to SES’s O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites, Jio claims to be the only company in the industry that can provide this technology, ensuring scalable and affordable broadband coverage throughout India with guaranteed reliability and service flexibility.

JioSpaceFiber has already connected four locations in India, which are:
▪ Gir Gujarat
▪ Korba Chattisgarh
▪ Nabrangpur Odissa
▪ ONGC-Jorhat Assam

“Jio has enabled millions of homes and businesses in India to experience broadband internet for the first time. With JioSpaceFiber, we expand our reach to cover the millions yet to be connected,” said Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited. Akash Ambani presented Jio’s indigenous technology and products, including JioSpaceFiber, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Jio pavilion in the India Mobile Congress. He added, “JioSpaceFiber will enable every individual, regardless of location, to fully participate in the new digital society with gigabit access to online government, education, health, and entertainment services.”

John-Paul Hemingway, Chief Strategy Officer at SES, stated, “Together with Jio, we are honored to support the Government of India’s Digital India initiative with a unique solution that aims at delivering multiple gigabits per second of throughput to any location in India. Our first fiber-like services from space are already deployed today in parts of India, and we cannot wait to see how this will lead to digital transformation even in the most rural parts of the country.”
